How To Play Violin Faster

If you didn’t know it there is a secret to mastering fast passages on the violin. Once you know this secret you will be able to play whatever you please at high speed.

What is this secret? well there are two parts let me give you the first.

Do you know what muscle memory is. Your fingers and body have a memory which records and then recalls everything you have ever played. If play a passage making tons of mistakes because you are not concentrating and filled with tension in your body your muscle memory will record it and you will probably play that passage the same way the next time and the next time as well. It will be conditioned into your body and you will have a great deal of difficulty correcting it.

Conversely if you play a passage perfectly without making any mistakes and with your body relaxed and free of all tension this way of playing will also be conditioned. You will never have to think about what you are doing again the notes will flow freely and easily from your fingers.

Now for the second part of the secret. The second part is the rule, what ever your fingers can play slowly perfectly they can fast perfectly. Whatever your fingers can play slowly perfetly they can play fast perfctly this means that if there are any fast passages you want to play then all you have to do is first learn to play them perfectly slowly and then after you have done that gradually build up your speed to where it needs to be.

You might think this all sound simple but you would be amazed at how many people do not do this. They refuse to play passages slowly at first skipping straight to playing them fast this never works and they are always unable to play these passages correctly.
